When instructed to do so, passengers must be both physically strong and capable of following instructions, such as opening the emergency door of approximately 10kg manually, under instructions of cabin attendants in an emergency. Though there may be individual differences, it has been determined, under the "Operational Regulations, Examination Procedures, Detailed Regulations" issued by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, that passengers can assist if they have reached the age of 15, and that is why passengers under the age of 15 cannot be seated at exits.
